Zwift Cog compatible trainers: the full list, with firmware and parts

Who it's for: riders who want Zwift's virtual shifting with a single Zwift Cog instead of a cassette, and need to know whether their trainer takes one, or which trainer to buy with one already fitted.
The short answer
Zwift splits trainers into two groups. From Zwift's compatibility article: "Zwift Ready trainers include a pre-installed Zwift Cog and Zwift Click and support Zwift's virtual shifting." And: "Zwift Cog Compatible trainers can support virtual shifting after installing a Zwift Cog and Click Upgrade Kit and updating to the latest firmware using the trainer manufacturer's app."
For a trainer you own: it must be on Zwift's list, run current firmware and get the right kit version. The Tacx FLUX trainers, Wahoo KICKR v5 and older, and Elite's Zumo, Drivo and Drivo II are not on it.

Without the Cog, the KICKR CORE 2 (11-speed cassette) is also $549.99 and the NEO 3M also $1,799.99.
Elite. Zwift lists the Avanti, Direto XR, Justo 2 and Rivo "with Zwift Cog and Click" as Zwift Ready. Elite's Avanti, Justo 2 and Rivo pages answer "Zwift Cog and Click included" with "Yes", but showed us no US price, so they are not in the table.
Van Rysel D100 cadence. Zwift's note: "Does not have a cadence sensor. Can connect to CADENCE in Zwift, but does not transmit cadence data." Decathlon's D100 page says to "Add a cadence sensor (ref: 8735155)" for full tracking; the US store lists a Van Rysel Cadence/Speed Sensor (search by name; the ref alone returned no US results on 30 Sep).
Trainers that take the upgrade kit (Zwift Cog Compatible)
Models from Zwift's list, firmware conditions from each brand.
Wahoo. Zwift lists KICKR (with the note "Only Wahoo KICKR v6 (2022 or newer) is compatible."), KICKR CORE with Cassette, KICKR CORE 2 and KICKR MOVE. Wahoo's virtual shifting article gives the minimum firmware:
- KICKR MOVE: 1.3.14 or later
- KICKR v6 (2022): 5.2.15 or later
- KICKR CORE 1: 1.3.17 or later
- KICKR CORE 2: 2.2.44 or 3.2.44 or later
Wahoo says the KICKR v5 (2020) and earlier cannot support Zwift's virtual shifting protocol and will not get an update for it. Wahoo's identification article gives the part numbers: WFBKTR122 is the v6, WFBKTR120 the v5.
Elite. Zwift lists the Avanti, Direto, Direto X, Direto XR, Direto XR Team, Direto XR-T, Justo, Justo 2, Rivo, Suito and Suito-T. Elite's knowledge base names the same models and adds two conditions. You need the latest firmware through Elite's Upgrado app (the Avanti, Justo 2 and Rivo can update themselves over Wi-Fi). And: "To ensure hardware compatibility with the models listed above, you must use the Zwift Cog and Click Upgrade Kit – ELITE version." Elite says it plans no firmware updates for other models, naming the Zumo, Drivo and Drivo II.
Garmin Tacx. Zwift lists the NEO 2, NEO 2SE, NEO 2T and NEO 3M. Garmin's virtual shifting FAQ lists the NEO 2, NEO 2T and NEO 3M, with the note "This feature requires the latest software on your trainer." The NEO 2 shipped with two axle types, and Zwift's NEO 2 install article says: "If your trainer has a type 1 axle, you'll need to remove the Zwift Cog from the included freehub body before installing it on your trainer." That takes a chain whip and a lockring tool. It also says "All Tacx NEO 2T Smart trainers have type 2 axles."
JetBlack. Victory and Volt V2. Zwift's note for the Volt: "Confirm V2 by checking the axle interface design (angled slope on housing as shown below)."
Van Rysel. The D100 is on the list, marked "UK and EU only." For the D500, Zwift's kit page says: "Only D500 trainers with foldable legs, bought September 2025 onward, are compatible."
Zwift Hub. On the list. The Hub One is on the Zwift Ready list, marked "Discontinued."
The upgrade kit: price, box and fit
Zwift's Cog and Click Upgrade Kit was $49.99 on 30 September 2026 in all three versions: "Multi Trainer Zwift Cog", "Elite Zwift Cog" and "Garmin Tacx Zwift Cog". The page has a selector that checks your trainer's brand and model.
- What's included: Zwift lists "Zwift Cog", "Freehub Included" and "Zwift Click".
- Tooth count: "All compatible trainers will receive a 14-tooth Cog, except Elite smart trainer users will receive a 18-tooth Cog."
- Trainer side: "Designed to fit a Shimano Hyperglide freehub body." And: "Not compatible with Shimano Micro Spline, SRAM XD/XDR, and Campagnolo freehub bodies. Not compatible with 1/8" fixed-gear or single-speed chains." It is "For use on Direct Drive Indoor trainers only."
- Bike side: Zwift says it is "Compatible with almost any 8-13-speed bike." Its compatibility article adds exclusions: "Campagnolo N3W 13-speed chains" and "Some Specialized Stumpjumper models (2018–2021)."
- Click and warranty: the Click runs on a CR2032 coin cell. The Cog and the Click each carry a 2-year limited warranty.

Conditions that catch people out
- You don't need the Cog for virtual shifting. Wahoo, Garmin and Elite all say the firmware and a Zwift controller are what enable it. The Cog saves swapping cassettes between bikes.
- Bluetooth. Elite: "To use all the features of the Zwift Click correctly, including virtual shifting, both the Click and the trainer must be connected via Bluetooth." Wahoo also allows Wi-Fi or Direct Connect for the trainer, with the controllers on Bluetooth.
- Other apps. JetBlack: "Note: Virtual shifting will only work on Zwift." Garmin says it is not available in the Tacx Training app, and Elite says the Cog and Click are officially supported only with Zwift. Wahoo lists Rouvy v4.3.5 or later as supported, and Zwift's kit page says "Zwift Click is now compatible with Zwift and ROUVY." To use other apps, plan on fitting a cassette.
- Speed count. Zwift and Garmin say 8 to 13-speed (Garmin's NEO 2T page: "almost any 8-13 speed drivetrains"). Decathlon and JetBlack say 8 to 12-speed. On 13-speed, check with your trainer brand.
- Zwift Ride Smart Frame. Zwift marks the NEO 2, NEO 2SE and NEO 3M "Not compatible with Zwift Ride." Garmin's FAQ says: "The Zwift Ride Frame is compatible with the Neo 2T, as well as type 2 NEO 2 Smart trainers. It is not compatible with type 1 Tacx trainers."
Replaced and discontinued models
- Zwift Hub Classic. Zwift took it out of the Zwift Shop in November 2023 and offered the Wahoo KICKR CORE with Cassette in its place, per its forum manager.
- Zwift Hub One. Listed by Zwift as discontinued. Its old Zwift store page now opens the KICKR CORE 2 with Zwift Cog and Click.
- Wahoo KICKR CORE Zwift One. Still on Zwift's Zwift Ready list, but Wahoo's old product page now opens the KICKR CORE 2 with Zwift Cog and Click.
- Wahoo KICKR MOVE. Wahoo: "As of June 2026, the Wahoo KICKR MOVE is discontinued and no longer available for sale through Wahoo's website. Limited inventory still remains available for purchase at select retailers globally." Wahoo suggests the KICKR at $849.99 instead: "Current flagship, same internals, no motion". It is still on Zwift's compatible list.
- Older Van Rysel D500. Zwift: "The previous version of the Van Rysel D500 sold without the Zwift Cog and Click is not compatible with the Zwift Cog and Click."
What we could not confirm
- Elite US prices. Elite's pages showed us no US price. Zwift sends US buyers to Todson, Elite's US distributor, but Todson's Elite Zwift page did not load for us.
- Elite Direto XR with Zwift Cog and Click. Elite's product page returned "This page does not exist."
- Van Rysel in the US. Zwift marks the D100, D500 and HT RCR "UK and EU only", but Decathlon's US store sells all three with the Cog, and Zwift's own Zwift Ready page says "The D100 is now available in the US with the new Zwift Cog and Click!"
- Wahoo KICKR with Zwift Cog and Click. Wahoo sells it, but it is not on Zwift's Zwift Ready list. The KICKR v6 is on the upgrade list.
- Which kit version includes a freehub. Zwift's kit page lists "Freehub Included" and does not split that by version. Elite says its version installs on the freehub already on the trainer. Garmin says a separately bought Cog goes on the trainer's Shimano/SRAM HG cassette body.
- NEO 2 with a type 1 axle. Zwift's kit page says "Only Neo 2 trainers with axle type 2 are compatible." Zwift's own NEO 2 install article gives steps for type 1 axles.
- NEO 2SE. On Zwift's list, not on Garmin's.
- NEO 3M Cog bundle contents. The version name includes the Cog and Click, but Garmin's "In the Box" list for it does not.
- Firmware version numbers. Wahoo publishes minimum versions. Elite and Garmin only say to install the latest firmware, and we found no minimum version for JetBlack or Van Rysel.
- Not on Zwift's list: Saris, Magene, ThinkRider and other brands, plus the Tacx FLUX series.
