Road and gravel bike size by height: the brand charts side by side
What size road or gravel bike for your height? Trek, Giant and Canyon's own size charts side by side, plus inseam, stack and reach in plain words.
At a glance
Short answer: There is no universal size chart. A 175 cm (5'9") rider gets a 56 cm Trek Domane, a medium Giant Defy and a small Canyon Endurace, all from the brands' own charts. Use the chart for the exact bike you want, then check your inseam and the bike's stack and reach.
Who it's for: anyone buying a road or gravel bike online, or between two sizes at a shop.
Four words, in plain English
- Height: measured barefoot, back against a wall. Trek, Giant and Canyon all size from this.
- Inseam: floor to crotch, barefoot, with a ruler or book pushed up as if you were sitting on a saddle. It sets how high your saddle goes. Trek says: "Your inseam is very important to your final bike size so please measure carefully."
- Stack: how high the front of the frame is (bottom bracket, where the cranks turn, up to the top of the head tube). More stack, more upright.
- Reach: how far forward the front of the frame is from the bottom bracket. More reach, more stretched out.
Same height, different sizes
Our reading of each brand's chart. Where a height sits on two sizes (brands overlap their ranges, or share an edge), both are listed.
| Your height | Trek Domane SL 5 Gen 4 (road) | Giant Defy Advanced 2 (road) | Canyon Endurace CF 7 (road) | Trek Checkpoint SL 5 AXS Gen 3 (gravel) | Giant Revolt Advanced SL 1 (gravel) | Canyon Grizl 6 (gravel) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 170 cm (about 5'7") | 54 | S | XS | M | S or M | XS |
| 175 cm (about 5'9") | 56 | M | S | M | M or ML | S |
| 180 cm (about 5'11") | 56 or 58 | M or ML | M | ML | M, ML or L | M |
| 185 cm (about 6'1") | 58 or 60 | ML or L | M or L | ML | ML or L | L |
The letters don't travel between brands. A Canyon S and a Giant M can fit the same person, and a Trek "M" gravel bike covers 164 to 177 cm on its own.

Between two sizes?
- Check your inseam. If Trek's height column says one size and the inseam column says another, your legs and body are not the "average" the chart assumes. The inseam decides whether the saddle goes high enough or low enough.
- Compare stack and reach, not the size name. Want a more upright ride? Pick the size with more stack. Bars feel far away? Pick less reach. On the Domane, reach grows only 3 to 4 mm per size while stack grows 14 to 24 mm.
- Ask the shop. Giant's own words: "Sizing to be used as a reference only." A test ride beats any chart, including this one.
Already have a bike that fits? Measure its saddle height and compare with our saddle height calculator, which works from your inseam.

Sources and notes
Where the sources disagree
- Canyon Endurace CF 7, two charts. The current US product page (and its geometry print page, pid 4627) gives 2XS to 2XL: up to 165, 165-171, 171-178, 178-185, 185-192, 192-198, 198 and up. Canyon's geometry print page pid 3707, also titled "Endurace CF 7", gives eight sizes: 3XS up to 158, 2XS 158-164, XS 164-170, S 170-177, M 177-184, L 184-191, XL 191-197, 2XL 197 and up. It looks like an earlier model's chart still online; we used the product page.
- Canyon Grizl 6, two charts. Current product page (and print page pid 4444): 2XS up to 166 through 2XL 196 and up. Print page pid 2844, also titled "Grizl 6": 3XS up to 160, 2XS 160-166, XS 166-172, S 172-178, M 178-184, L 184-189, XL 189-194, 2XL 194 and up, with different stack and reach. We used the product page.
- Giant Defy Advanced 2 by model year. Same frame geometry (stack 527 to 615 mm, reach 369 to 402 mm) on the US 2027 page and the Ireland 2025 page, but different height ranges: US 2027 XS 160-168 cm, S 166-174, M 172-180, ML 178-186, L 184-192, XL 190-198; Ireland 2025 XS 157-169, S 165-175, M 171-181, ML 177-187, L 183-193, XL 189-199. We used the US 2027 page.
- Canyon size pickers vs tables. The Endurace CF 7 and Grizl 6 pages offer XS to 2XL in the size picker, while the geometry table on the same page also lists a 2XS.
Caveats
- The "same height" table is ours, not any brand's. We read each chart as printed, counted shared edges (Canyon's 178-184 and 184-190) as belonging to both sizes, and listed every size whose range holds the height. Brand ranges in feet and inches are rounded by the brand, so they can overlap where the centimetres don't (Trek Checkpoint S ends at 5'5" and M starts at 5'5").
- Heights in the first table are converted by us (1 in = 2.54 cm), rounded to the nearest inch.
- Trek geometry is printed in centimetres; we show it in millimetres (x10). Stack and reach are frame figures, without stem or spacers. Canyon also prints "effective" stack and reach to the hands; we used the frame figures for all three brands.
- Model years. Trek Domane SL 5 Gen 4 and Checkpoint SL 5 AXS Gen 3, Giant 2027 models, and Canyon's current US models, as listed on 5 November 2026.
What we could not confirm
- Specialized and Cannondale. Specialized's Diverge Sport Carbon US page shows geometry (stack and reach) but its size guide did not render a height chart for us. Cannondale's Synapse Carbon 2 page only shows a height widget (set to 5'8", it suggested a 51 for 5'5" to 5'9"), not a full chart. Both are left out rather than pieced together.
- Inseam for Giant and Canyon. Neither prints an inseam column. Giant's page estimates inseam from height and shoe size; Canyon gives a seat height range per size instead.
- Women's models. Liv and other women's-specific models are not covered.
